Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander


Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander (1898-1989) was the first African American woman to receive a PH.D. In the United States she also was the first woman to receive a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the first African American woman to be admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. Sadie was also the first national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
